I’m Manuj Gupta — an engineering leader, builder and curious observer. This site is a record of the work I have done, the questions I keep returning to, and the experiments I build when I want to understand something properly.

It is also meant to show the person behind the job titles. The useful work is rarely only about systems or plans; it is about judgment, relationships, persistence and making complicated things a little clearer for the people around you.

A career spent making complicated work move

I have spent more than twenty years in engineering and R&D, across research consultancy, telecom, automotive and smart metering. My work has moved between embedded systems, integration, engineering delivery, firmware platforms, CI/CD, hardware and firmware test automation, and digital-twin initiatives.

I have worked with teams ranging from a handful of people to 80 or 100. I have built teams from scratch and walked into teams that were already on fire. Both experiences taught me something the other could not.

The pattern underneath the work is simple: help people see the real problem, create enough alignment to act, and keep the work moving when the situation is incomplete or uncomfortable.

What I carry forward

Over time I have become better at spotting where something is quietly going sideways before it becomes a crisis, bringing people together without turning every disagreement into a turf war, and making progress without pretending that the trade-offs are not real.

That is the perspective behind my writing on engineering leadership, resilient systems, delivery, AI-assisted prototyping and the practical decisions involved in getting complex work shipped.

Still curious about how things work — and how to make them work better.

Lately I have been spending a lot of time with AI tools: building small automations, testing what is genuinely useful, and separating practical leverage from things that merely look impressive.

The Labs are where I document those experiments. The Notes are where I work through ideas in public. Most of the projects started with a problem I actually had, which is still my favourite reason to build something.

I live in Bengaluru with my two kids. Outside work, I volunteer pro bono to facilitate peer support groups and assist with other community causes.

The parts of life outside engineering matter to this site because they shape how I think about the work. Curiosity, humour, patience and the ability to stay human in difficult situations are not separate from leadership; they are part of it.

A working record and a legacy

I do not think of legacy as a polished list of achievements. I think of it as leaving behind useful things: systems that are easier to operate, teams that are stronger than when I found them, decisions that become easier for the next person, and writing that helps someone else avoid a needless struggle.
